Sumerians and Cuneiform

This year we are using Mystery of History volume I for our history. We love it! Check it out here:

Lesson 7 is "The Sumerians". We learned about cuneiform. To reinforce the concept, the author, Linda Hobar, has the kids making cunieform tablets out of clay! Simple and fun! Here are a few pictures from our morning:

  1. We just did the Cunieform tablets too!! And it led into a discussion on a different day about why our words are so hard to learn - why some letters sound different at different times. And how learning SO many different letters in an alphabet might be difficult up front, but how much easier it would be to not have to figure out which sound an /a/ is making this time!!

  4. Suzanne, we will have to compare Mystery of History notes - love it!

Tamara, not "officially" yet. Whitley has done math all summer and we've gotten a headstart on history. Melody's done a LITTLE bit of phonics too.

Stef - I just set it up today! LOL Our first official week back is the first week of August.
